One Month Update

It's been one month since we first (hesitantly) opened this donation account, and we're almost 1/4th of the way to our goal! We stand in awe of God, humbled by the support of friends, family, and strangers, and encouraged by the notes and cards that we have received along the way. THANK YOU!

Shares have slowed down a bit, so if you are so inclined and would like to do something to help today, we'd be honored if you would share the link with your online communities and help us spread the word about this story that God is writing.

ADOPTION UPDATE: This coming Monday we're meeting with a new social worker (our former social worker moved on from the agency) to reopen our home study and make the additions that would allow us to take this sibling group of 5 children. Please pray all goes smoothly and the paperwork is processed quickly. As you might recall, our original home study took 19 months to complete, so we're praying these changes go a bit faster than that. :)

Even though we have not officially been matched, we're preparing as much as possible for what the future could hold. We've been working on setting up the little boy's room, organizing the girl's closet, and cleaning out the house to find space for what had been stored in the guest bedroom-turned-boy-room. Life continues to keep us on our toes... and I'm quite sure that won't stop anytime soon! Over the past two weeks we've also collected our necessary paperwork and background checks (for the 3rd time!) and those have now been sent down to our agency, so as much as it is within our power, things are progressing. Thanks for your prayers!

For those who have asked:
we are working on getting "adoption registries" set up (not exactly the same thing as a baby registry!), but are holding on sharing those links until we've been officially accepted by Costa Rica, and officially matched with this set of 5 siblings. We'll keep you posted.

Grateful for your care and support. #AdoptionTeam

Great News!

Thanks to several amazing individuals who have made very generous donations over the last 5 days, we are now over 1/5th of the way toward our adoption goal!

God continues to remind us that He knows our needs before we do. We are grateful to each one of you who has joined us in this journey, and come along with us for the story that He is writing.

Valentine's Day

This weekend we were reminiscing a bit about where we were 2 years ago (Paris) while we cleaned out a guest bedroom, purchased a comforter and sheets for a soon-to-be-5 year old boy, and organized a closet for 4 little girls between the ages of 3 and 11. My, how life has changed. :)

Last week we sent our official "Letter of Intent" to the adoption agency, re-did our fingerprint scans for the umpteenth time, and worked on figuring out what paperwork has to be redone in order to have everything in order for our home study revision (yep, the one that took us 19 months to complete has to be opened up again to take these kids). God still has a sense of humor, and at this point we're thankful that He gave each of us one too. We're taking it a day at a time, praying for the kids, praying about the process, and giving thanks for those who continue to come alongside of us in this journey.

Over the weekend we received two offline donations and an offer to present our adoption story to a local church mission board; more confirmation that God's still writing our story. We are blessed, humbled, and thankful.

REMINDER: If you need any editing work (emails, newsletters, blog posts, websites, etc.), or know of someone who does, feel free to contact me (Carrie) through my website: cgkoens.com. Everything I make is going into our adoption fund, so every little bit helps and I'm thankful to be able to contribute by using the skills God has given me.

More Than We Could Imagine

It's been one week since we originally shared how God brought us from "happily childless" to "let's take 5 kids!" In that week our story has been sharing over 600 times online, and 17 people have donated more than $2800 towards our adoption expenses. As "realists," neither of us were expecting that kind of response; if we were looking for additional confirmation that this was God's plan for us, we certainly have it after the last 7 days!

What has surprised us the most are the individuals who have felt led to be a part of this adventure. Had we sat down and made a list of people to talk to about it, it would have felt like a huge stretch to include those who have joined with us. In fact, most of those who have made a donation, we would never have told at all. God has such a delightful way of reminding us that WE don't know what HE has planned. WE don't know who HE wants to use to encourage us along the journey - including total strangers, and WE don't know how HE wants to use this story to encourage OTHERS. To all who have donated and shared - thank you. Thank you for joining us, thank you for allowing God to use you, thank you for being a "pipe" to channel His resources. We are humbled, we are blessed, and we will pass it on when this is complete.

NOTE: We did want to share with you that we aren't just sitting back and waiting for the money to come in. We are both continuing to add to our savings through the jobs and extra work that God has provided. You may not know that I (Carrie) work as a freelance copy editor in addition to my contractor work as a book promoter with a social media company. SO...

If you need an editor for blogs, emails, newsletters, or websites, please feel free to reach out to me via my professional website. Anything that I make - whether it's through ongoing contract work or one-time jobs - goes towards our adoption fund, and I'm grateful to be able to contribute monetarily by using the skills God has given me. Tell your friends!

That Got The Ball Rolling!

We've just rolled 24 hours since I shared our Adoption Story, and Peter and I are blown away by your responses! The story I wrote up has been shared over 460 times (WOW!), and in just 24 hours we've had 10 individuals invest in this adventure, putting us 1/20th of the way to our goal.

Once again God has reminded us (this time through YOU) that He knows what we need, and He's in charge, not us. As a (recovering) control freak, that's a hard one for me to remember, but I am so thankful for each one of you who has given financially and those who have expressed their excitement over the last day. After 3 years of keeping this under our hats, it's been fun to be able to share with you what God is doing. Thanks for being a part of our team.
